I recently attended the Crystal Maze Live Experience in London, just down the road from Piccadilly Circus tube station for my birthday.
We were originally meant to go on Friday but extreme winds saw trains cancelled, so we had to reschdule!
The event is for groups of eight. There were only two of us, so our group consistent of two pairs and a family of four.
Our host was fun and the setup was just like the old Crystal Maze show on TV in the 1990s. It lasted little more than 60 minutes across four different zones – Industrial, Futuristic, Medieval and Aztec. There were four challenges in each zone, which is 16 in total, divided by 8 people, which means 2 each.
It was really fun and it’s a team game as you’re looking through the windows often shouting advice to teammates on how to complete the challenge, which makes up for just doing 2 challenges each.
Looking back, the challenges weren’t too challenging. Our team, which included two children, got 14 of the 16 crystals, and a bonus one. I’d definitely recommend it if you enjoyed the show back in the day. Try do it with up to 7 of your friends because it’ll be even more fun that way!
After winning all of our diamonds we traded them in for time in the final Crystal Dome. Each of our 15 were worth 5 seconds, with all 8 of us going inside. Whilst there were both gold and silver tokens inside, they both counted towards your final score. Whereas I recall on the TV series that the silver ones were negative. Either way, we collected 182 tokens.
