Cardiff Castle

The capital of Wales has a number of tourist attractions. On the weekend I visited, with three friends, the stadium was packed with fellow wrestling fans for the WWE Clash at the Castle premium event.

Finding a restaurant or bar with seating wasn’t easy on Saturday afternoon, and the number one tourist attraction was dead in the city centre too.

Cardiff Castle has existed for over 2,000 years. And unlike most castles, it not actually built on a hill. It’s pretty much at ground level but for a bump in the grass. Quite surprising it still exists. But I guess invaders thought there was nothing in Cardiff to worth invading.

There was a huge queue in the afternoon so I didn’t bother waiting around to try get in line. Instead, I went for a selfie some 100 metres away. Or at least it felt that far away. This counts as ticking off my bucket list, right?

One obscure thing I did see. At the entrance to the field where the castle stands, there is a Gareth Bale plaque attached to an ancient dragon statue. I didn’t have the time or will to research why on earth it’s here, but I took a photo non-the-less:
